Natural pearls are different in colour, shape, size and luster. It means exists millions of different pearls and this is exactly the thing what makes pearls world so exiting for me and jewelery so unique. Every pearl has a story you just should just find it out and decode it for yourself.

Natural pearls

Natural pearls can be divided to two type freshwater pearls and sea water pearls. Both of them you can divide again in two type - picked up from nature and cultivated pearls. Both are natural pearls grown in natural environment. Majority (almost all) of todays natural pearls are coming from pearl farms ( in sea or pounds). Picked up form nature pearls are rather exeption today, as this method is extremely time consumine and expensive.

Pearls shape

We use dot round or oval (rice) shape pearl whe we are thinking about natural pearls. Majority of natural pearls are round or rice shape and they are called like this on pearl market. In addition to this you can find drop (rice shape pearl, but more narrow on one end), potato (unequal rice or roundish), bread or button (flat on one side) and coin (flat on both sides). This is only some most common natural pearl shapes.

Natural origin of pearls isa giving to pearls a lot on asymmetry. Of cause you can find also symmetric pearls, but this rear. In my shop you can find products from baroques pearls, they are natural cultivated pearls, bigger in size but with a lot of wrinkles and small holes also with differnt colour shades. To find two similar baroques pearls is close impossible.

Some pearls are having "tale" and they are called lie this - tale pearl. It means pearl is grown into shell and it´s taken from shell with small piece of shell. They are often colored. Very impressive pearls are fireball pearls, those pearls are huge in size and looks like fireball, very irregular shape and beautiful. Interesting pearl is mabe pearl -  they are grown into shell and cutted out with part of shell. They are totally flat on one side and pearls shape (half round or half oval) on other side. This is not it there is more shapes of pearls. pearls.

Most valuable is perfect round shape as this one is most reare in natural cultivating process.

Pearls size

Natural pearls are "growing", it means you can find pearls from 1,5mm to some sentimeters. Pearls growing time starts from one year till some years. Pearls is always "ready" for harvest, just size is different. Biggest pearl in world is coming from Filipines, it´s named Lao Tzu, diameter is 24cm and weight 6,4 kg. But this pearls is not considered as gem. Most common pearls in jewlery are 5-10mm pearls. Smaller and bigger are not so common.

Pearls value is growing with size.

Pearls colour

In nature palette pearls are white, pink, lavendel-purple, golden, grey and black. Very rear are red and brown, but they exist. In all mentioned colour pearls are having differnt shades. Even in white colour pearls could be from cold-white (ivory) colour to beige. Same gos to all colours. Black pearls are never real black, they are so called peacock colour - deep cold green to deep purple/blue. Natural tones exist thousands.

On top of natural tones is possible to colour pearls. It means yuo can basically find all imaginable colour of natural pearl. Most common in colouring is black (peacock), gray, yellow, oragne, red, pink, gold, brown, blue, green etc. It means when you will find very colourful pearl it still could be natural pearl.

Most valuable colours are natural colours. Black pearls are very expensive also rear colours like red, blue or brown. Usually those pearls are coming from rare shell species.

Pearls luster

In shop you can find pearls with very differnt luster, in describtion you can always find some comment on it. Some pearls are with almost no luster - matte, they can add to some design very interestig luster. Usually pearl should have some luster. Pearls surface is also important factor in luster valuation. Often pearls are having some blemish on surface. Also wrinkles and holes are part on blemish.

Most valuable are pearls with bright, clean (no blemish) and deep rainbow luster.

Some regions and farms are having extremely high quality requirements for pearls. Pearls coming from those farms are also additional value.

Shell pearls

In my shop you can find also some shell pearls products. Those are very nice in luster, big in size, differnt in form and colourful. Shell pearls are made by man, but material is coming from natural shell. It´s still called a gem, but it´s not grown in  atural conditions. It´s very common in jewelery as they are very impressive in shape, colour luster and size. Most common shape is drop and round.

Pearl imitations (faux pearsl)

Imitation pearls could be made from different material - glass, acryl etc and they are coated with artificial mother-of-pearl layer. They do not have any value and price is very low. You will not find any imitation pearl in this shop!
